Fun and colourful wedding photography for a peacock themed wedding shoot.
I recently had the privilege of working with a team of incredible local suppliers on this colourful peacock theme wedding shoot in Winchester.
Our vision for the shoot was for it to be full of colour, romance, and achievable tips for adding a unique element to your wedding day. I love a chance to be involved in some colourful wedding photography!
We're thrilled the shoot has now been featured in the July/August 2020 copy of Your Hampshire and Dorset wedding magazine! Read on to find out how the team pulled the look together....

Vision and planning
The lovely Laura and Michelle of Spiral Events organised the shoot and came up with the vision for the day. They wanted to combine the colourful peacock styling with a romantic, boho vibe. We started the day with a beautiful candlelit ceremony space and got more vibrant and vivid as the day went on!
We love Katherine's ability to capture the intensity and realness of a single moment.

Hair and make-up
Our beautiful model Jo started the morning being wonderfully prepped and pampered by dream team Laura from Alida K Hair and Beauty and Rachel from Rachel Maslin Make Up Artist.
Rachel went for a classic, natural look for the bridal make up, choosing warm, neutral tones that went with her skin tone for the day, and adding a bold red lip, darker eyes and some shimmer for the evening style. As she rightly says, you can't have a party without a bit of sparkle can you?!
Laura created three different hairstyles throughout the day, from soft waves for the first look, transitioning to a loose and natural half up style and finally a beautiful, intricate up-do which still has some softness to it which reflects the romantic feel of the day.

“Bridal makeup to me is makeup that enhances natural beauty and simply makes the bride look like the very best version of herself.”
A venue with variety
The shoot took place at the Guildhall Winchester, which is an amazing Hampshire wedding venue with so many different spaces and so much character! We took full use of the building for the day, from the candlelit ceremony under the brick vaulted arches, the tablescape in the King Charles Hall with its amazing chandeliers, the balcony with views over King Alfred's statue, and we even went for a sunset walk around the adjoining Abbey Gardens for that golden evening light. There really isn't much this venue can't give you for a stunning wedding day.

Unique bridal style
Our bridal model Jo was an absolute star through a number of outfit changes and some stunning bridal looks! Dresses came from the brilliant Olivia George Bridal and Eliza Jane Howell ranging from more traditional to bolder, colourful looks. Jewellery was supplied by Bish Bosh Becca, whose delicate pearl sets and unique backdrop lariat necklaces were a perfect complement to each outfit. Our final bridal look of the day included this simply amazing hand-painted leather jacket by lovely Laura of One Off Designs. What better way to make a unique statement when heading out and about for your wedding couples portraits?!
“The true joy in what I do comes from creating something that captures the essence of a highly significant day in someone’s life in a way that can be a keepsake for life.”

Suits for the groom.
Our male model, Ollie, was styled by Slaters in Basingstoke in a range of different suits to complement the bridal look and styling. With more and more grooms stepping away from traditional black or grey suits and showing more personality with colour and pattern, we wanted to reflect that in this shoot. My personal favourite is the bright blue suit with the bold check!

Colourful styling.
We had a fabulous team of suppliers to help bring the colourful peacock wedding theme to life! In the King Charles Hall, Sarah of Black Diamond Weddings put together the most stunning tablescape with coloured candles, peacock feathers and a teal silk table runner. The gorgeous stationery for the set up in deep blue with gold wax seal embellishments was provided by Kathryn Deeley Stationery.
"Rich jewel tones, luxurious fabrics and warm gold accents came together to create this opulent banquet table."
Sarah Huxley, Black Diamond Weddings.
Down in the brick vaulted courtyard Sarah worked her magic again along with Zoe from Savoy Floristry to create a romantic, candlelit ceremony space, which was later transformed into a sparkling evening party backdrop with additions from Blooming Beautiful Backdrops and a neon sign from Hampshire Event Props. In our final location on the balcony, Blooming Beautiful Backdrops made a unique balloon installation in bright peacock colours.

Bouquets and buttonholes
The Blooming Workshop, a regular at Spiral Events Hampshire wedding fairs, created different bouquets and buttonholes for each of our looks, from the more traditional to the bright and bold!

Cake!
Mmmmmmmm........cake...........
This shoot really brings you the gold, because not only did we have a stunning peacock blue wedding cake with pear slice peacock feathers, the wonderful Sue from Suzy Blake Cake Atelier also brought her famously exquisite macarons and donuts! (Donuts or doughnuts?) No, I'm not drooling.....
